Meesage from Wing Commander Froome to Sir Michael
I wish to report that XV Squadron paraded the Squadron Standard for the last time with huge dignity and pride on Friday, and to high praise from the Reviewing Officer and all who I spoke with. The afternoon events and evening party were an equal success enjoyed by all – young and not so young. My team did a simply outstanding job led by my XO and SEngO and really pulled out the stops. I am so incredibly proud of them and the entire Squadron and privileged to be the OC that led them.
We have discussed the future of the Squadron Standard long and hard over the last month or so. The RAF has still failed to announce the disbandment of the Squadron, despite my lobbying, and there is still no forecast for when it will be announced. I find that particularly disappointing. Nonetheless, that coupled with a flurry of Senior Leadership interest in the future of MacRobert’s Reply in March gives me hope for a future beyond Tornado and as such we have changed our plans and will place the Standard in the Rotunda at The Royal Air Force College later this month. We are still working out the date with the College and will let you know in due course when.
With best wishes
